Watershed Discovery Day 2024 Recap

This year, JCWC hosted its 2nd annual Watershed Discovery Day at Mill Park on June 1st. This educational event featured ways in which we can all be good stewards of Johnson Creek Watershed. We teamed up with our partners at Clackamas Water Environment Services, North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District, SOLVE, Salmon Watch and Kindness Farm.

The event kicked off with SOLVE’s clean up at 9am, where volunteers donned neon vests, trash pickers and garbage bags and set out to collect litter around the park and along the Springwater Corridor. They collected a whopping 300 lbs of trash in very little time! At 10am, JCWC and partner booths offered games and activities that promoted watershed health. Participants learned about the salmon lifecycle, wastewater and stormwater management, and how to plant seeds. They also had the opportunity to explore macroinvertebrate specimens from the creek and visit a birding station.

At the end of the event, JCWC raffled off prizes from Portland Nursery, Missionary Chocolates and SOLVE.

A big thank you to our partners and our additional donors, including Collage, Scout Books and Bob’s Red Mill, for all your support. We couldn’t have done it with you!
