The Urban Forestry division of Portland Parks and Recreation is planning three yard tree giveaway events in east Portland for this fall, and one of them is in the Johnson Creek watershed! Have a yard that could use some shade? Looking to provide wildlife habitat and help decrease stormwater runoff? Live in the Centennial, Powellhurst-Gilbert, Mill Park, or Lents neighborhood? Urban Forestry will be giving away up to 150 yard trees at an event on November 4, 2017 at Parklane Park. JCWC is partnering with Urban Forestry to help get the word out: we’re hoping to register 50 people to receive trees, with the other 100 to be given out on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of the event (limit 2 trees per household). More information at the Urban Forestry website.
As part of this effort, JCWC is also looking for two interns–preferably from these neighborhoods–to help us spread the word this summer! Check out the internships page on our website for more details.
