With your help, we removed…drumroll please…5.3 tons of trash from the creek!

The morning started off chilly but warmed up to a beautiful day. Everyone gathered around coffee and doughnuts for the pep rally and safety talk. Volunteers were ready to roll and cleaned up 7 miles of Johnson Creek in teams of about 10.

Everyone got back together after all that hard work for the BBQ where burgers were cooked to perfection and the fixins were lovingly prepared by the

Overland Parks Coalition. The raffle had tons of good stuff from local businesses including Birds and Bees Nursery, SunGold Farms, Burns Feed Store, Wichita Hardware, American Family Video and Espresso, Barnes and Noble Lloyd Center, and Sportsman’s Warehouse.

Our traditional silly awards were given out, including the golden trash award (for the most unusual item found-there were a lot, but this year it was a dirty old creepy doll), and the dirty Olympics (who got soap on a rope). It was a great time all in all. Thank you for your enthusiasm and all your dedication to remove more than 5 tons of trash from the creek!

Thanks again to our funders for helping to put this project on:
