No Ivy Day at Foster Floodplain

Join Portland Parks & Recreation and the Johnson Creek Watershed Council (JCWC) to enhance this Lents neighborhood natural area park. Volunteers will remove ivy. This allows space for a variety of native plants to grow, which ultimately improves air quality. Everyone welcome, and no experience necessary!

What: No Ivy Day, removing ivy from the watershed. 

 

When: Saturday, October 29th, 9am-12noon

 

Where: Foster Floodplain Natural Area parking lot: SE Foster Road & SE 104th Avenue

 

How to prepare: This event will happen rain or shine, so dress for weather: rain coat, warm layers, sun hat, and sunscreen as necessary. Wear sturdy shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring a filled water bottle and a snack and coffee mug, if you have one!

 

We will provide: Gloves, and all necessary tools and instruction, coffee/tea, water and snacks provided.  We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact info@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare.

 

Covid-19 safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. 

 

Children are permitted: Children are welcome at this event if accompanied by an attentive adult. 

 

Accessibility: This event may require bending, standing, digging, pulling, kneeling for long periods of time. There are paved trails through the Natural Area, but most of the work will take place off trail on uneven ground. There are ADA parking spots available. A portable toilet will be provided (not ADA accessible).

Directions

Closest address: 10602 SE Foster Rd, Portland, OR

 

By transit: Take route # 14 east to SE 97th & Foster, then walk about 0.5 miles east on SE Foster Rd.  Or, walk about 0.75 miles east on SE Foster Rd. from the Lents Town Center/Foster Rd MAX station.

 

By bike: Bike east on Foster Rd. to the small parking lot between 103rd Place and 107th Ave. Or take the Springwater Corridor Trail to the Foster Road crossing, turn right on SE Foster Rd., then turn immediately right again into the small parking lot.

 

By car: Take SE Foster Rd. east and park in the small parking on the south side of Foster Road between 103rd Place and 107th Ave. Meet at the foot of the footbridge near the parking lot.
