Science in the Park

Join us for a morning of fun scientific exploration in the park. This year we are learning all about pollinators. Bees, dragonflies, birds, oh my! This event is great for elementary age kids to explore the wild world of the insects, birds, and mammals that help keep our plant and animal communities happy.
Observe macroinvertebrates, take home a native wildflower, make a dragonfly craft, and learn about how healthy streams benefit our pollinator populations!

How to prepare: Bring a filled water bottle and some snacks! Feel free to bring a blanket or chairs to sit out on the grass.
What we provide: Instruction and materials. We can also provide bus fare to and from the event. Please contact info@jcwc.org to arrange bus fare.
Health and Safety: We will follow current Oregon Health Authority guidelines. Masks are not required, but encouraged in indoor spaces where social distancing is not possible. Stay home if you are experiencing symptoms of any contagious illness or have had recent contact with someone exhibiting symptoms of any illness.
Children are encouraged to attend! This event is great for elementary age kids.
Accessibility: This event may require standing or squatting/kneeling for long periods of time. A non-ADA portable bathroom is available for this event.
Directions: There is more than one Mill Park in the Portland area, so make sure you’re coming to the right one! Closest street address: 6201 SE Overland St, Milwaukie, OR 97222
By transit: Take the MAX Orange Line to SE Tacoma/Johnson Creek, then transfer to Bus #34 (Clackamas Town Center). Get off at the 9700 Block of SE Linwood and walk 2 blocks north on SE Linwood Ave, then turn east on SE Overland St to reach the park.
By bike: Take the Springwater Corridor Trail to SE Linwood Ave. Turn south onto SE Linwood Ave, then east onto SE Overland St to reach the park.
By car: From north of Johnson Creek, take SE Johnson Creek Blvd to SE Linwood Ave/SE Flavel Dr. Turn south onto SE Linwood Ave, then east onto SE Overland St to reach the park. From south of Johnson Creek, take SE King Road and turn north on SE Linwood Ave. After half a mile, turn east onto SE Overland St to reach the park.
