June is busting out all over–at least at Powell Butte Nature Park. On our first wildflower hike of the season on June 4, we saw 33 species of flowers in bloom (some were shrubs, but we’re not picky). See the list below, especially if you want to head out in the next few days. Our hike leaders were Mart Hughes, retired Portland Parks & Recreation ecologist, and Daniel Newberry, JCWC E.D. Mart designed and supervised restoration at Powell Butte from 2000 to 2016, so he’s a wealth of information about the vegetative communities and restoration history at the Park.
